Plan truck parking and the carry distance
Parking affects every trip between the truck and the apartment. A safe space near the approved entrance can save significant repeated walking and reduce obstruction to residents. Check the street at the same time and day as your move, because signs and traffic conditions may differ.
In the City of Melbourne, loading zones are limited to eligible vehicles and the sign may set a time limit. If no time is stated, the council says a default 30-minute limit applies. Do not assume a removal truck can remain in any loading zone for the entire move. Check the current sign and, where necessary, ask the relevant council or building about options.

Book enough lift time
A lift booking should include time for the team to enter, protect the lift if required, move items through the apartment, load or unload, and remove protection afterwards. A short booking window can become difficult if the truck cannot park on time or the lift is shared.
Measure the route, not only the lift
Record the lift door width, internal height and depth, plus the narrowest door, hallway turn and apartment entrance. Measure bulky furniture and identify items that may need to be dismantled. Photos and a short video of the route are often more useful than a written description alone.

Pack for apartment corridors and lift trips
Use sturdy, consistently sized boxes that stack securely. Overfilled open boxes slow down lift loading and can damage common areas. Keep boxes liftable and avoid loose bags that change shape when stacked.
Label by destination
Write the room and a short contents note on two sides. At the new apartment, use room signs that match the labels.
Stage without blocking
Create a safe staging zone inside the apartment, but keep fire exits, corridors and lift lobbies clear.
Protect awkward items
Wrap mirrors, artwork, televisions and glass before the lift booking begins. Secure hardware in labelled bags.
